This page is meant to explain the purpose of the website and it's origins (the Legacy Committee and our goals), how best to navigate the website, and to talk a little about how it was developed.
The Legacy Committee was formed to leave Alter High School a “Legacy Gift” in the form of a pair of self-perpetuating scholarships on the eve of our 50th Reunion to express our appreciation for the incredible education and lasting memories our time at Alter left us with.  The committee was formed in Nov 2021 by Tom Pernik with a fairly diverse cross section of our class to find a way to accomplish that objective.  We hope that all of you will join us in donating to this “Legacy Gift” to leave our Amazing Class of ’75 legacy behind to help a few in need every year to get the same exceptional, religious-based education that our parents afforded us.  Thank you all for your contributions!

The main method of navigation between pages is the red menu button in the upper right corner of the website.  There is also “inter-page” navigation in place to go, for instance, from the Junior Yearbook subpage back to the main Yearbook page.  To do that you would click on the “Yearbooks” page header in the upper left section of the subpage.  When you move the mouse over the page header on a subpage of a section, the cursor will change from an arrow to a “finger” indicating a link.  The same applies to the Update Classmate Form, Update Classmate Bio and Request Classmate Contact Info form subpages of the Class List and Alumni Directory pages.

On the Reunions page, if you want to skip to pictures of a specific Reunion (for example the 40th), you can click on the "glossary" link to that in the upper left part of the page.  Again, if you move your cursor over a picture or text and things change, the text turns red for instance, it means that is a link, and when you click on it, it will take you to whatever the link says it is.  Similarly on the Yearbooks page - under a specific yearbook, if you want to skip to the Junior class pictures as an example, you would move your mouse over the "glossary" in the upper right part of the page to the text that says "Juniors-pg XX-XX" and click on it.  The Freshman, Junior and Senior yearbooks have been scanned in their entirety and posted on this website.  There is still a lot to scan on the Sophomore yearbook, so a lot of the glossary text items under that yearbook are not "links" yet.  As that yearbooks class pictures get scanned and put on the website, those "glossary" links will then become "live".

If you wish to “Add a Comment” to a RIP, Back in the Day, or Reunion picture, we ask that you be somewhat respectful in doing so.  Joking about what’s in the picture is expected :)

We highly encourage you to update your classmate info or bio that is displayed on the Class List and Alumni Directory pages.  Everyone loves a good story … please tell us about yourself in as much or little detail as you wish.  Those updates will be reviewed and added to the website periodically, so we also encourage you to check back from time-to-time.  We are also looking for about a dozen “lost” classmates.  Those classmates info and bios are highlighted in pale yellow on the Class List and Alumni Directory pages.  If you have any info about them at all, please fill out the Update Classmate Bio form on the Alumni Directory page with what you know about them and submit that.  We will then do our best to verify that info and contact them if possible.  We really do want everyone to at least know about and be invited to the 50th Reunion.

The website address was only sent to Class of '75 classmates, so obstensively only we know about it.  It is safe unless you share it with others outside the Alter circle.  If we determine additional security measures are needed, we will wrap a shared username/password around it and only send that out once again to just Class of '75 classmates.  All contact information for everyone was omitted from the website, so no one can see or has access to that.  If you have any questions about anything you see here, you are encouraged to contact us at alterclass75@gmail.com.

This website was designed and developed from Feb-Nov 2022 for the Alter Class of ’75 Legacy Committee by Alan Steffens.  The website pictures were gathered from a number of sources, but mainly a Facebook site created by Dave Denney in 2010 as a means of getting the class together on Facebook to share pictures and memories prior to the 35th Reunion.  Margie Heckman and Alan Steffens contributed to that Facebook site and monitored it along with Dave for several years.

Mary Ellen Crotty Stewart lent her Junior and Senior Yearbooks to Alan to scan and add to the website. Mike Wildenhaus contributed all the Reunion Brochures and other memories from back in the day, sending those to Alan in mid-2022.  Kim Graham lent Alan a number of pictures from the 20th and 30th Reunions.  The Legacy Committee helped with some of the picture captions and explanations.

Bill Barlow pulled together all the classmate info from a data dump from the Alter Alumni Relations office and some of Alan’s prior classmate data he had pulled together for the 35th Reunion.  Bill then did a lot of research to get that info as “current” as possible.  The Alumni Directory page info was pulled together from the 2002 and 2015 Alumni Directories that were released by the Alter Alumni Relations office to those of us that purchased them.  Those were essentially books of very short biographies of everyone that had ever graduated from Alter, filled with info they had accumulated on all of us at the time.  Alan scanned the Class of ‘75 Alumni Directory info from both Alumni Directories, and all the biographical data from the 10th, 20th and 25 Reunion Brochures, OCRed all those scanned pages into text, and entered all that into the database that builds the Alumni Directory page on this site.

Alan continues to add functionality and content to the website (as seen on the "What's New" page), so please stop back from time-to-time and check out the latest!
