After scanning all 4 of our yearbooks and captioning all the pages, this Senior Yearbook is by far the most organized and comprehensive of them all.  It even has a "table of contents" a few pages in that explains most of the pages that are not identified very clearly.  If you were on the yearbook staff our senior year ... well done, you!  This is an awesome way to remember all the events of our senior year!

At left is a photo that is pure Sr. Julia Suba.  Pat Graham and Mike Henderson are 'acting out' characters from the book 'Rhinoceros'.  Rhinoceros was written by Romanian-French playwright Eugène Ionesco, a commentary on the rise of fascism and the dangers of conformity, a book at the top of Sr. Julia's reading list.  As a non-conformist in the extreme, acting in the capacity as the 1974-75 yearbook moderator, Sr. Julia's legacy is all over this yearbook.  May God rest her soul.

Can someone please explain what all the mime stuff is doing in this Faculty pics section?  Rick Lemons is in facepaint in many of the mime pics, but unfortunately he's not around to ask anymore.  Makes the whole section a little freaky ...

To my fellow '75 classmates who may (or may not) be confused as to the whiteface 'mime' actors that appear throughout these yearbook pages, here is the story as best I remember it.
These staged shots were purely a function from the 'fevered' mind of a beloved Alter HS English teacher, Sr. Julia Suba.  Even by '70s norms, she was considered 'out there'.  Sr. Julia was the '75 yearbook moderator, and in that capacity had a huge influence on the yearbook production.  Many of you may remember that, of all the books on her required reading list, 'Rhinoceros' by Romanian-French playwright Eugene Ionesco, was high on that list.  In short, the play is a commentary on the rise of fascism and the dangers of conformity.  I believe that including these photos was her way of engaging in some non-conformity, rebelling against any previous conceptions as to how a high school yearbook should be constructed.
Again, that is my opinion, and in fairness, Sr. Julia is no longer with us to explain herself.
Note that I did not participate in the photos, so I would be very interested in hearing from someone who did.  Rick Kohnen, this means you! ;-)

The Spanish IV class of the '74-'75 school year is pictured at left, sitting in the main lobby of the school. It was so small they did not assign a classroom to it. I was also in that class, but not pictured. I was either sick, suspended or expelled by the time it was taken. I also could have been in the 'john' for all I remember.

At the bottom right is a photo of Fr. Tom Meyer. Fr. Tom really tried to be one of us. He was on the football sideline and the basketball bench as team chaplain, chaperoned all the dances, and even participated as backup singer in the '20 Years After' band put together by Bill Barlow for the talent show. Fr. Tom passed away several years ago, spending his final years in the St. Leonard's Retirement Village.

Loved having Miss Carroll as our Coach. We talked her into coaching the team my junior year, she knew nothing about tennis but knew how to handle all the different personalities. She was the only girls coach that went undefeated in her 2 years.
